Burnley Turn Attention To Andone After Wood Bid Rejected

Burnley‘s search for a new striker has turned to La Liga, with Deportivo La Coruña’s Florin Andone, claims the Lancashire Telegraph.

The 24-year-old Romanian international moved to Spain in 2005 following the death of his father and has forged a career in his adopted homeland.

Having begun his career with Castellon, he swiftly moved to Villarreal C before progressing to Cordoba B and Cordoba, scoring 51 goals in 138 appearances. He joined Deportivo in 2016 and scored 12 times in 37 matches.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche remains keen on signing Leeds United’s Chris Wood. The 25-year-old New Zealand international has scored 44 goals in 86 appearances for the Yorkshire club. The Clarets were evens favourites to sign Wood this summer but with Leeds rejecting a second offer, Burnely are looking at a €13m deal for Andone.

Wood is highly coveted and Dyche failed to land the striker last summer as well. This time around, the sale of Andre Gray to Watford for £15m has made the task of finding a new striker more urgent.

The 26-year-old scored nine times as the Clarets surprised pundits by comfortably avoiding relegation last season. Sam Vokes, 27, continues to be Dyche’s preferred central striker, netting twice during their shock 3 – 2 win over Chelsea on the opening day of the 2017/18 season.
