Bayern Munich are expected to be one of the most active teams in the transfer market over the upcoming summer. One of the areas where they must strengthen their depth lies on the attacking end — particularly, their wings.
The departures of both Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben have forced Bayern to look for alternatives in the upcoming months. Their main target was Chelsea’s young star Callum Hudson-Odoi, but his pursuit has become increasingly complicated due to Chelsea’s unwillingness to sell the 18-year-old.
With that in mind, Bayern Munich have made contact with the representatives of Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech, Sport Bild writes. And while Ziyech is not the same impact player as Hudson-Odoi might end up being, the Ajax star has far more experience at the top level and ended the 2018-19 season at a high level for the Eredivisie giants.
The Morocco international is under contract at Ajax until the end of the 2020-21 season, and his versatility could be quite useful. Even though he profiles best as a right winger, he can also operate on the left or in a central role if needed. But as a right winger, he’d be a great replacement for Robben, while pushing Kingsley Coman to his natural left-wing spot.
In 29 Eredivisie appearances, Ziyech registered 16 goals and 17 assists. He also contributed five goals and four assists in 17 Champions League outings (including qualifiers).
