Manchester United lead chase for Real’s £65m James Rodriguez

A host of Premier League clubs have been put on red alert after Real Madrid leaked their intention to sell James Rodriguez, 24, this summer.

Manchester United have been offered Rodriguez for £60m, and are planning on taking Real up on their offer as soon as they finish this seasons remaining fixtures and FA Cup Final.

With United failing to qualify for the Champions League they plan to replace Louis Van Gaal as early as next week, announcing Jose Mourinho as their next manager. They will then turn to the signing of Rodriguez, and signal the start of a new era at United.

The Colombian striker has enjoyed a solid if not glittering time in Madrid, scoring 20 goals in 55 games at Real. Moving to the Bernabeu in 2014 from Monaco, Rodriguez has failed to live up to the hype, dropping down the pecking order behind Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema.

The Real board now feel it is time to move the player on, with United being joined by Arsenal and Manchester City in registering an interest in signing the player this summer.
