Manchester City believe they are in pole position to land Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, 25.
Incoming City manager Pep Guardiola has identified Gundogan as one of his top transfer targets this summer. He has instructed Manchester City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain to meet with players representatives and conclude a deal before the end of the season.
The German international has been linked with several premier league club over the years. City rivals Manchester United showed interest last summer, but were put off at the £33 million price tag.
It was widely expected that Gundogan’s former manager Jurgen Klopp would bid for the player, but has now switched targets to Mario Gotze.
