Swansea City‘s prospects of signing Atletico Madrid winger Nicolas Gaitan received a massive boost when Inter Milan dropped out of the running for his services, reports talkSPORT.

The 29-year-old winger attracted a lot of Premier League attention but the Swans are in pole position having already held talks with the La Liga club. West Ham, Watford and Crystal Palace were all rumoured to be looking at Gaitan but firm interest has yet to manifest itself.

With two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, Gaitan fell from grace with Diego Simeone following reports of disruptive behaviour in the dressing room.

Atletico brought in Diego Costa, 29, and Vitolo, 27, in January which pushed the Argentina international further out of the picture. The extent of Gaitan’s issues are underlined by his six La Liga appearances this season, five of which came from the bench. Last season, his 30 appearances yielded four goals and two assists as his Atletico career unravelled.

Inter Milan’s interest in the winger was well-known, but Italian media outlet Calciomercato claims Nerrazzurri informed the Premier League club that they were no longer looking at the Atletico player.

Their attention, it’s reported, is turned to Paris St Germain’s Javier Pastore, 28, who previously played for Palermo in Serie A.
