The England youngster is frustrated by the lack of first-team opportunities under new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri and is keen to take a loan deal this winter.
After last season’s spell with Crystal Palace, Loftus-Cheek found himself included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad at the World Cup finals. It was a year which left the 22-year-old clamouring for a first-team place.
So far, Sarri resisted those claims and selected the midfielder for the recent Europa League tie against Vidi, as well as two substitute appearances in the Premier League. The Italian believes the youngster must “improve tactically” if he is to break into the Chelsea team and stay there.
While those few minutes didn’t stop Southgate selecting Loftus-Cheek for the recent friendly against Switzerland. However, the England boss omitted him from the squad for Nations League matches in Croatia and Spain.
Loftus-Cheek was offered the chance to leave Stamford Bridge on loan during the summer, but the youngster chose to stay and fight for his place in the side. The midfielder disappointed Roy Hodgson, the Crystal Palace boss, with his decision. At the first sign that Loftus-Cheek would be available, the former England chief made no secret of his admiration.
Arsenal, however, are considering Loftus-Cheek should Aaron Ramsey leave in January. With Chelsea one of the clubs reportedly interested in the 28-year-old, the prospect of a player swap deal can’t be ruled out.
Everton are the other Premier League team interested in Loftus-Cheek. However, they are very much outsiders with the youngster keen to stay in London.
