Manchester United defender Daley Blind, 28, is set to complete his return to alma mater Ajax this week, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Netherlands international has been omitted from the Red Devils squad which left for their USA tour this weekend.

A £18.5m deal is in the final stages of being agreed between the two clubs, leaving United with a £4m profit after Blind’s four years at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho told the Dutchman that his time with United is over as the Portuguese looks to strengthen his defence. Having been a first-choice under Louis Van Gaal, Blind finds himself having made a total of 30 Premier League appearances in the past two seasons.

Last season’s Premier League runners-up are eyeing a move for AC Milan Leonardo Bonucci, 31. The former Juventus man has spent one year with the Rossoneri after leaving Turin and is valued at £30m by the English club. Manchester City were previously heavily linked with the Italy international.

Tottenham’s £70m valuation of Toby Alderweireld has all but killed a deal for the Belgium international with the north London club set to lose the player for £25m when a release clause in his contract activates this September. United are expected to return for the centre-back in the January transfer window.
