Jose Mourinho is on the trail of Portugal international Joao Mario, 24, and Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is willing to sanction the deal if it takes the Armenian international to the San Siro.
The 28-year-old moved to Old Trafford in a £30m deal in summer 2016 and quickly made himself a fan favourite. However, this season he finds himself playing a less important role for the side to the point where he questioned his future at the club.
Corriere Dello Sport claims Inter have already contacted United regarding a swap deal in January in a move which allows Mourinho to strengthen his squad without breaking the United bank. The club’s board told the Portuguese that he cannot increase the wages bill and must sell before new players arrive.
Inter are also interested in Juan Mata, 29, a player who was rejuvenated for a while upon Mourinho’s arrival. However, the former Valencia and Chelsea star is playing less of a role as United rose to second in the table.
It wouldn’t be the first time Mourinho has offloaded Mata. He was Chelsea boss when the Spaniard left Stamford Bridge in a £37m deal in January 2014.
