Manchester United are coming off a 1-0 win over Leicester City this past Saturday in the Premier League. But The Red Devils also have an eye on the potential transfer market.
Manchester United will offer €75m for Toni Kroos from Real Madrid. Real wanted to sign Paul Pogba from the Premier League side this summer and could use Kroos as a makeweight. And considering what both players would bring to the table, this is certainly a swap that could make sense.
United need a playmaker that can stand alongside a more defensive-minded midfielder, and Kroos fits the ball. He can play next to someone like Scott McTominay or Nemanja Matic, while also maintaining enough tactical flexibility to help on both sides of the ball. That’s something Pogba has struggled with during his entire career.
Meanwhile, Pogba at Madrid would have the “freedom” he wants because he would play next to midfielders that have no problem to cover the spaces he can left, such as Casemiro or, eventually, Luka Modric. The Croatian is a playmaker by trait, but has improved defensively over the past few years.
It is believed that talks for this potential swap could be held next summer. But don’t be surprised if these two midfielders end up exchanging teams ahead of the 2020-21 season.
