Tottenham Hotspur are ready to swoop for Ricardo Pereira, 23, as a replacement for Kyle Walker, 28. The England international is set to switch to Manchester City next week, leaving Spurs short in defence.
Pereira returned to FC Porto this summer after a two-year loan spell with OGC Nice in Ligue Un. Surprise title contenders until spring, Nice qualified for the Champions League play-offs for the first time in their history.
The Portuguese international featured in 24 of Nice’s Ligue Un fixtures in 2016/17, making his 100th league appearance during the early part of the season. The full back is keen for regular first team football and has been watched regularly by Spurs during the last campaign.
With just Kieran Trippier as the sole right-sided defender, Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham’s head coach, is keen to shore up his squad and not leave the highly-regarded Englishman exposed.
Daily Star reports claim that Porto are seeking a fee of £22m for Pereira, who has represented his country 38 times from Under-19s through to the full senior level. The move will appeal to him as he seeks to claim a place in Portugal’s Russia 2018 squad. A Selecção currently trail Switzerland by three points in qualifying, with the two nations meeting on 10th October 2017 in a winner takes all match in Lisbon.
