According to a report from Corriere dello Sport, the veteran Napoli goalkeeper is set to complete a move to San Siro after undergoing the medical ahead of the transfer. Both parties had already agreed to personal terms.
Reina wanted to extend his current contract with Napoli, but the 35-year-old could not reach an agreement since him and Napoli were at odds regarding the length of the upcoming contract. And if we add the rumours regarding Napoli being linked with new players – such as Bernd Leno – it seemed both parties knew the relationship wasn’t going to continue past this season.
Milan are set to sign Reina as a way to backup plan in case they lose Gianluigi Donnarumma since several big European clubs are set to make a push for the young Italy international during the coming transfer window. And Milan are offering Reina a three-year deal, which is more than what Napoli were offering.
Reina has a lot of experience since he has played for Barcelona, Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the past. He could act as an excellent backup plan for Donnarumma, and is good enough to start if the chance arises.
