Leicester City face losing another one of their stars as the Premier League champions’ squad is ransacked by rivals. Everton are set to offer £20m for 29 year-old goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, as newly-appointed manager Ronald Koeman looks to re-shape the Toffees squad.
The Dutchman has admitted defeat in his attempts to lure Joe Hart away from Manchester City and has turned his attentions to Schmeichel. A key member of the Foxes defence, the Dane was an ever-present during Leicester’s shock title-winning season.
Claudio Ranieri’s headaches grow bigger by the day as he struggles to keep his squad together. Jamie Vardy, 29, is considering a move to Arsenal, and now Manchester United are the latest club to show an in interest in French midfield star N’Golo Kante, 25. Both clubs are looking at the mercurial Algerian, Riyad Mahrez, 25.
Ranieri hopes that the lure of next season’s Champions League will keep some of his stars at the club. Leicester’s owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, has sanctioned contract talks with key players and hopes to tempt Schmeichel into staying at the King Power stadium with a new £100,000 per week deal.
The Dane, whose father Peter won five Premier League titles with Manchester United, would be tempted by a new contract in the East Midlands whilst the club would be able to remove one of the release clauses which are causing them so many problems this summer.
