One of the main priorities for Manchester United during the upcoming transfer market will be to strengthen their defence. The Red Devils have several alternatives for the centre-back position, but lack a go-to player like the ones they have had in the past.

Jose Mourinho has targeted several alternatives, and one names has sneaked into the team’s agenda. We are talking about Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson, who has emerged as one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League during the current term.

In fact, Manchester United have been scouting the 24-year-old on a regular basis, and one of the scouts was in attendance for Swansea’s 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion, where Mawson had a great performance and the review was nothing but glowing.

It remains to be seen whether The Red Devils will submit an offer or not, but all signs indicate they are set to make a strong push for the Englishman.

Mawson moved to the Liberty Stadium from Championship side Barnsley in the summer of 2016. He has since racked up 65 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring seven goals. He also won his first international call-up for England for the friendlies against Netherlands and Italy, but was an unused sub.
