West Ham United face an anxious wait over their number one defensive target after it emerged two of Europe’s elite are tracking his progress, claims Football.London

The Premier League club returned to Celta Vigo for 23-year-old centre-back Jonny Castro, six months after the Galician club rejected West Ham’s original offer for the player. David Moyes is keen to resurrect the £14m deal this month but faces a tough job persuading the player his future lies at the London Stadium.k

Joseba Diaz, Castro’s agent, confirmed that he met with representatives of AS Roma and Atletico Madrid this week to discuss a potential move away from Balaidos. He and the defender will review the offers received next week before deciding his future.

Local lad Castro signed for his hometown club in 2011, rising from Celta B to the senior side in 2012. He has gone on to make 159 La Liga appearances for the club, scoring just once, against Eibar in February 2016. His only other goal for the club came in the Bernabeu when he scored the winner in a 2 – 1 Copa del Rey quarter-final victory.

Highly regarded in his homeland, the Vigo-born player has been capped by Spain at all junior levels but has yet to break into the senior team.
