It was a busy day on Merseyside for Everton yesterday with club agreeing a £30m fee for Yannick Bolasie, 27.
The winger becomes the Toffees record signing, surpassing the £28m paid to Chelsea for Belgian international Romelu Lukaku, 23, in 2015. The formalities of the deal are expected to be completed later this week.
Bolasie is Ronald Koeman’s first major signing of the summer and follows the capture of Idrissa Gueye last week from Aston Villa for £7.1m.
It’s been a difficult summer for new manager Ronald Koeman. He had been frustrated in the transfer market until now but is seeing all of his cards fall into place this week with Everton also agreeing terms for Swansea City’s Ashley Williams, 31.
The centre back will move to Goodison Park in a £12m deal as the Toffees seek to replace John Stones, 22, who has completed his protracted £47.5 transfer to Manchester City.
Williams was a key player as Wales progressed to the Euro 2016 semi-finals in France this summer and his experience will be key in steadying the Everton defence.
The duo may complete their signings in time for the first game of the new Premier League season with Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Saturday.
