Mourinho Plays Chicken With United Board Over Skriniar and Romagnoli

Jose Mourinho’s public battle of wills with the Manchester United took a twist with the ‘Special One’ raising the stakes, according to the Daily Mail. interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, 23, and AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, also 23,

After a weekend of intense speculation over his future, including reports he was to be sacked irrespective of the results against Newcastle United. That, as yet, hasn’t happened and reassured of the ground he stands on, Mourinho is set to raise the stakes by demanding the signatures of Skriniar and Romagnoli.

The current fracture between manager and board began in the summer when the directors refused Mourinho’s request to strengthen the defence, leaving United weakened on the pitch.

A run of poor results left the Portuguese exposed to criticism and irascible with the media. However, in an unexpected twist, CEO Ed Woodward came in for more intense invective from supporters with the United bigwig seen as culpable for the club’s shambolic transfer activity.

Fans may not like the style of Mourinho’s football, but they are backing him when the board is blocking signings.

Skriniar has long been a Mourinho target with intense speculation that a deal with Inter would be completed last summer. Romagnoli was previously linked with Chelsea but the departure of Antonio Conte ended that interest.
