Following the footsteps of other veteran heralded players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Villa and Bastian Schweinsteiger, just to name a few, Rooney seems to be the latest worldwide star to make a jump to the United States, and he is set to join DC United as a Designated Player.
The Washington Post reported that that Rooney “is in serious talks” about a summer move to D.C. United, adding that he “has grown frustrated” at Goodison Park. Even though manager Sam Allardyce wants the attacking midfielder to remain with the team, he also acknowledged that the “attention” on him – given his status in the Premier League – makes his situation more difficult than others.
Those serious talks are apparently properly headed, and the latest information from the States indicated that Rooney is set to complete his move to DC United on a $16.2 million deal that would make Rooney one of the top earners in the league.
The 32-year-old Rooney has scored 10 goals and delivered two assists in 31 Premier League appearances this season.
