Nelson made his Premier League debut in Sunday’s 3 – 2 win over Southampton with Arsene Wenger rotating the Gunners line-up ahead of the Europa League quarter-final second leg in Moscow this Thursday.
The midfielder has made 15 appearances in various cup competitions this season and is among the most highly-rated of Arsenal’s academy graduates.
Nelson is pleased to have reached agreement with the club: “It is a big achievement to sign for a big club like Arsenal, so I’m just delighted with the contract and hopeful that I can sign it soon.”
Wenger continues to promote youth to his senior squad and is desperate to keep Nelson. Recent seasons have seen a number of promising youngsters leave Arsenal to further their careers, including Chris Willock who joined Benfica and his brother Matty, who moved to Manchester United. The latter is currently with St Johnstone on loan.
Nelson was identified by both Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain after excelling in recent seasons for Arsenal’s academy sides in European competition.
