It seems odd to suggest that Philippe Coutinho is on the verge of leaving Barcelona considering he was made one of the most expensive players in football history by the Liga giants roughly 12 months ago. However, that might be the case for the Brazilian considering how things have gone of late.
The former Liverpool star has struggled for playing time this season, and Ousmane Dembele’s recent form has sent him to the bench. In fact, the Brazil international has started only one of Barca’s last five fixtures and has struggled to make an impact when given the chance. So recent reports have indicated that Los Blaugranas would be open to a potential departure.
The plan is clear, though – if Barca decide to part ways with Coutinho it would be to bring Neymar back. The Brazilian phenom is bored with life at PSG and would certainly welcome a return to Spain, but Barcelona would need to get cash in order to re-pay a transfer fee for the world’s most expensive player.
That being said, let Coutinho leave would be a massive mistake. He’s only been the club for one year and the numbers do not lie: 15 goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions. Manchester United and PSG are keen to make an approach for him, but Barcelona should hang on to him. At least, until the end of the current term.
