Liverpool are looking to bolster their defensive depth during the January transfer window. And The Reds have already identified their top target.
According to several reports, Jurgen Klopp is keen to make a move for Napoli‘s star left-back Faouzi Ghoulam. The 26-year-old talented defender is out of contract next summer, so Napoli might have to cash out on him before he leaves the club as a free agent.
Ghoulam is fast becoming one of the most talked about players in Europe. His versatility to contribute on both ends of the pitch is quite appealing, and several clubs have enquired about him. But Liverpool appear to be leading the race to land him, because there has not been any sort of progress in the talks of a contract extension between him and Napoli.
This is not the first time Liverpool want to bolster their defence. They tried to make a move for Virgil van Dijk during the summer, but could not acquire the Southampton defender. Things are different with Ghoulam, though, and considering the defender wants to leave Napoli, it could get easier for Liverpool to sign him.
Ghoulam joined Napoli during the January transfer window in 2014. He has accumulated 147 appeareances for Napoli across all competitions, notching two goals and 24 assists.
