AS Roma have a clear need this summer since they have to strengthen their defensive depth this summer. After losing Kostas Manolas – who signed for Napoli – this summer, the Rome-based outfit are in dire need of adding at least one centre-back before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
And apparently, Roma have already identified their targets for the upcoming weeks since they have three names on the table. One of them is Chile international Guillermo Maripan, who currently plays for Alaves in LaLiga but could exit the side if a reasonable offer comes along.
He’s not the only alternative, however, as Roma are also looking at Djene Dakonam, from Getafe, and Dejan Lovren, from Liverpool. The Croatian would represent a safer choice due to his experience and the fact that he’s been relegated to a secondary role at The Reds ahead of the 2019/20 season, but Djené has greater upside and could be a better long-term alternative.
Either way, it’s clear Roma must do something to strengthen their defensive depth this summer. Otherwise, they wil continue to stumble just like they did last season and this time, it’s Champions League or bust for Roma. Something they won’t be able to achieve unless they improve defensively before it’s too late.
