John Guidetti quickly went from being Celta’s most important attacker to an absolute afterthought on the squad in only a matter of months. And now the Swedish striker will get another chance to revive his career on Spanish soil.
The former Manchester City player has officially joined Alaves on a loan deal until the end of the current season, as confirmed by the latter on the team’s official website. Guidetti will instantly improve an attacking line that lacked a big, physical presence in the box.
Guidetti is currently having a disappointing season. He was expected to lead Celta’s attack during the current campaign, but suffered a collarbone injury during pre-season and was forced to miss almost two months. He struggled to get back to the squad once he was deemed fit, and lost his starting place to Maxi Gomez. Therefore, Alaves seems like the best move to re-launch his career.
Guidetti will try to get as many first-team minutes as possible, because he needs to play if he wants to represent Sweden at the upcoming World Cup. And if things go well, then Alaves have the chance to purchase the striker on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee once his current loan deal expires in June.
The 25-year-old striker has been limited to just eight Liga appearances in the current season. He is yet to score.
