The Ligue 1 transfer market already ended earlier this week. However, AS Monaco continue to monitor the transfer market since they are willing to add any free agents available out there that could help the team turn things around after a poor start to the 2019-20 campaign.
With that in mind, Les Monegasques are open to make a push to acquire veteran midfielder Claudio Marchisio. According to a report from Spanish outlet Marca, the talks are at an advanced starge and Marchisio could very well join the side before the Ligue 1 resumes at the end of the next week.
The 33-year-old midfielder spent last season with Zenit St Petersburg. Before that, he was a Juventus player for 13 years, making 389 appearances and scoring 37 goals in all competitions for the Serie A champions.
Monaco have already made 10 new additions to the squad this summer, and Marchisio would be the final touch for the project coach Leonardo Jardim is overseeing. Monaco already acquired the likes of Wissam Ben Yeder from Sevilla for €40 million, and winger Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid for €30 million. However, adding Marchisio would add some much-needed experience to a midfield that also added Tiemoue Bakayoko on Deadline Day.
The Ligue 1 side have apparently already reached an agreement with Marchisio, and he is set to sign a one-season contract with an option for 12 further months.
