West Ham United’s summer spending is set to continue with Lucas Perez, 29, of Arsenal their next target, according to the BBC.
The Spaniard was a surprise signing by the Gunners in 2016 after the passed on him a month before the deal happened. As everyone geared up for him signing for Everton, Arsenal swooped and added him to their squad.
Despite grabbing a hat-trick in Basel in a 4 – 1 Champions League win, a season later, the £17.3m signing was out on loan at former club Deportivo La Coruna.
Now, the north London club is ready to sell for around £5m as they look to trim their squad ahead of the Premier League season. They currently have 29 players on their books without considering youngsters such as Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith-Rowe who shone in their pre-season friendlies.
Portuguese giants Sporting Clube agreed terms on a €5m deal with the Gunners last week but the move fell through after they required Perez to take a 50% pay cut. It put the Spanish striker back to square one and West Ham moved quickly.
New Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to add strikers to his squad and provide competition for Marko Arnautovic, 29, and Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, 30, in his squad.
