Inter Milan continue their search for an upgrade in central midfield following the capture of Radja Nainggolan earlier during the transfer window. But it seems their search will now take them to keep an eye on the Premier League.
According to a report Tuttosport, Inter Milan could turn their attention towards Ilkay Gundogan if they’re unable to land their main target, Luka Modric. The Neroazzurri have been looking to sign the Croatia international for quite a while now, but it seems Real Madrid are just unwilling to let him go for a reasonable price.
That would make Inter focus on Gündogan who, at least on paper, could provide an excellent complement to Nainggolan. It is believed that the German international could be available in case Inter submit an offer in the €40 million range.
Even though Gundongan has been with Manchester City since 2016 and has registered over 50 appearances for the club, Pep Guardiola would be open to his departure for several reasons. Aside from the fact that City have enormous depth in the CM role, Gündogan is quite injury prone and they would prefer to part ways with him and, if possible, look for a replacement in the remaining days of the transfer window.
This is not the first central midfielder Inter try to sign, though. They were also in talks with Arturo Vidal, but the Chilean ended joining FC Barcelona instead. And after missing out on him and seeing his chances of getting Modric plummet, it seems Gundogan now looks like the best alternative available for the Serie A giants.
