Paris St. Germain have offered Leicester City‘s N’Golo Kante, 25, a swift return to French football. The French champions want to sign the midfielder on a five-year deal and are ready to activate his £20m release clause.
This comes as devastating news for manager Claudio Ranieri, who is currently waiting on Jamie Vardy, 29, and Riyad Mahrez, 25, to decide their futures. Arsenal have bid £40m for both, with the Footballers of the Year each having £20m release clauses in their contracts.
The Italian isn’t being slow to act with reports of his interest in Sevilla‘s Steven N’Zonzi, 27, emerging as the most likely replacement if Kante leaves.
Arsenal were heavily linked with the French international during last season but opted to sign Granit Xhaka, 23, from Borussia Monchengladbach instead.
Kante moved to the King Power at the start of last season, joining from Caen for a fee of £8m. He was a major factor in Leicester City’s charge to the Premier League title, with dominating performances in the centre of midfield and had been widely tipped to win one of the Footballer of the Year titles.
The player is not rushing his decision, in the aftermath of the Foxes being crowned champions Kante went on to say he would make his decision after Euro 2016 finishes. This gives the PSG players in the French squad an opportunity to persuade their teammate to cross the Channel and return to Ligue 1.
