FC Barcelona are keen to make a splash to further strengthen their defensive zone heading into the upcoming season. The Spanish giants have considered several alternatives to improve the left-back role, and one player they are reportedly considering currently features for Ferland Mendy.
According to media outlet France Football, the 22-year-old Mendy has emerged as a key target for Barca thanks to his impressive play throughout the season. The defender has made 17 Ligue 1 appearances with three assists and a number of standout performances at the back.
Los Blaugranas have been scouting Mendy constantly and in fact they are reportedly impressed with the defender’s performances. They are monitoring his progress and already see him as the replacement for Lucas Digne. The former Roma defender has been heavily linked with an exit from the Camp Noy outfit this summer, and Mendy could be a viable alternative – as well as a long-term replacement – for Jordi Alba.
Mendy came through the youth ranks of Le Havre and has adapted quite well at top-flight football, so he might be set to make a move for a bigger club sooner than later. It is clear that the Ligue 1 is not enough for him, so we might see him as a Blaugrana member once the 2018-19 season kicks in.
