Jose Mourinho will try to take advantage of the FIFA international break to focus entirely on something he does all year long: analyse potential reinforcements for Manchester United. However, this time he will do it knowing that there are specific needs he must address sooner than later.
The Portuguese tactician wants to bolster the defence – something he couldn’t accomplish this summer – and also wants to sign another world-class midfielder, to either pair up with or replace Paul Pogba. And based on recent reports, both of his prefeered targets currently feature in LaLiga. We are talking about Toni Kroos and Lucas Hernandez.
Kroos is heralded as one of the best central midfielders in the world and it is not a surprise that he is being linked with a move to Old Trafford. Manchester United have loved him ever since he featured for Bayern Munich, but it is unlikely that Real Madrid will sell him. Especially considering Luka Modric might leave the club soon.
As for Lucas Hernandez, the French has not been able to settle as a starter for Atletico Madrid and that could speed the talks of a potential exit. But he would be extremely expensive, since the French is considered to be one of the best up-and-coming defenders in the world while also being quite versatile: he can play at both centre-back and left-back with equal ease.
It remains to be seen whether The Special One will be able to bring them to Old Trafford. But the rumour is already out there.
