One of the most rumoured departures in Manchester United during the current transfer window has been the potential leave of Anthony Martial. The French winger wants to leave Old Trafford, and he might have a great chance to do so before the Premier League transfer window closes in the coming days.
According to a report from The Mirror, The Red Devils are ready to swap Martial for Chelsea‘s Willian as they try to bring the Brazil international to Old Trafford before the close of the window. At the very least, la idea makes sense on paper. Both have a similar market value and both are said to be looking for new challenges in their careers.
Plus, Jose Mourinho has “lost patience” with Martial and he will barely play in case he stays. So why would United want to keep him, knowing that right now he has far more value as a transfer asset? Plus, Willian is an in-prime who would likely represent an upgrade over what Martial can do right now.
Plus, the 29-year-old Brazilian has been a target for United ever since Mourinho joined the team. Maurizio Sarri wants to keep the former Shakhtar Donetsk star on the squad, but Martial could also be an interesting option in case Chelsea want to start a rebuild. As a younger player, Martial would fit much better on that plan.
The next days will be key for his move to happen. But it wouldn’t be strange to see Willian wearing red and Martial donning blue once the 2018-19 Premier League season starts.
