It seems every week there’s a new young player topping the shortlist of some of Europe’s top clubs. And this time, the “honour” belongs to Benfica teenage star Joao Felix. The attacker – who can play all over the final third – is said to be on the radar of some of Europe’s top sides.

According to a report from Diario AS, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are leading the race to acquire the 19-year-old. He’s having an impressive season – six goals in 12 league appearances – but he’s been particularly hot of late, after netting five goals in last seven appearances for the Portuguese powerhouse.

Some believe Joao Felix can be “as good as Cristiano Ronaldo” and others believe he might be “better than Kylian Mbappe”, so with those credentials, it’s not hard to imagine why both Los Blancos and Los Blaugranas are keen to make a move for him. His versatility, as mentioned above, is also a huge plus.

This is not the first time Felix has been discussed among top clubs, though. He was the star performer of the UEFA Youth League in the 2016/17 season, where he destroyed Guti’s Real Madrid on his own. That was the first moment Los Merengues noticed his presence, and have been scouting him ever since.

The likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United are also said to be in the running for his signature. However, the two Spanish giants seems to lead the race for the coveted Benfica youngster, who’s under contract 2023 and is said to be on a €120 million release clause.
