Manchester City Eyeing Roma’s Pellegrini

Current Premier League leaders Manchester City are monitoring the progress of AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, reports Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old is back at the Stadio Olimpico after two seasons at Sassuolo. Sold for €1.25m, the Giallorossi activated the €10m buy-back clause in his contract following 11 goals in his 53 appearances for the Neroverdi.

Federico Ricci, 23, moved in the opposite direction and has since been loaned to Genoa, with a €14m option to buy.

Sky reports that City representatives watched Pellegrini during Roma’s 3 – 0 home win over Hellas Verona in September.

So far, he still waits for his first Roma goal, with five appearances to his name this season. His form last season saw him capped by Italy for the first time during the 5 – 0 drubbing of Liechtenstein in a World Cup qualifier.

With David Silva, 31, a target for AC Milan, Manchester City are eyeing younger replacements while they wait for their youth academy to show results. To date, no youth graduates have established themselves in the first team squad since the 2008 takeover of the club by Abu Dhabi United Group.

It’s a problem they are hoping to rectify but in the meantime, the City scouting network is scouring the continent for the brightest talents to join Pep Guardiola’s squad.
