The 26-year-old is currently with the Switzerland squad as they prepare for Russia 2018. During an interview with newspaper Aargauer Zeitung, he confirmed he would depart the Bet365 Stadium.
In response to a direct question about his future, he said: “Yes, of course. It is no secret that I will leave the club.”
Shaqiri went onto put himself in the shop window:
“I would love to stay in England, I think the league is perfect for me. It’s the best league with the best players, but I do not want to exclude anything.
“Everyone wants to compete with the best, that was one reason why I chose the Premier League. And that’s why I want to take the next step now.”
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United both kept tabs on him during the season but it is Everton who are in pole position to sign him. The Albanian-born Swiss international has a relegation clause in his contract which sets a ceiling on his fee at £13.5m.
It leaves the Potters with just a £1.5m profit on the deal after they paid Inter Milan £12m for the midfielder in 2013.
