Despite a performance in yesterday’s North London Derby which left Arsenal fans purring, Aaron Ramsey is still on course to leave the club next summer. However, Real Madrid are set to test the Wales international’s determination to hang on until then with a January bid for his services, reports the Mirror.
The 27-year-old was at the heart of the Gunners fight back to claim a 4 – 2 victory over bitter local rivals Tottenham at the Emirates. Ramsey, a half-time substitute, dominated the Lilywhites midfield and finished the game with two assists. It’s the sort of form which many Gooners dreamed of since 2013-14 which remains Ramsey’s epic season. He finished with 16 goals in 42 appearances, including the winner in that year’s FA Cup final.
Arsenal stunned the player and fans when they abruptly terminated contract renewal talks when Ramsey believed a deal worth close to £250,000 per week was agreed. It’s no coincidence that the decision came shortly after Ivan Gazidis, to whom Ramsey is close, informed the club he was leaving to take over as AC Milan CEO.
Social media is awash with calls from fans for Mesut Ozil to be sold in January and the money used to reward Ramsey for his efforts. Inter Milan are set to confirm their long-standing interest in the German with a bid this winter.
Will Arsenal appease their fans or are other plans too well developed to stall?
