Cavani’s exit to Inter Milan, triggers Mauro Icardi to Arsenal

Arsenal’s determination to strengthen their forward line was given a boost with Inter Milan’s £42m bid for Paris St. Germain striker, Edinson Cavani, 29.

The Gunners have been rebuffed by Lyon over French international Alexandre Lacazette, 25, and despite some encouragement from Jean-Michel Aulas, are reluctant to meet the French club’s asking price.

It’s left them looking at Mauro Icardi, 23, and Cavani’s arrival at the San Siro would pave the way for the Argentine striker’s departure.

His wife and agent, Wanda Nara, has reportedly already met with the Gunners representatives to discuss personal terms and is expected to resume talks this week.

The north London club are desperate to add another striker to their squad with Olivier Giroud’s inconsistency in front of goal, a continuing source of frustration. With 52 goals in 102 appearances, the Argentine international ticks the right boxes for Arsene Wenger.

It isn’t a straightforward deal with Napoli also in the hunt for Icardi. Having sold Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus for £75.4m, the Serie A club are flush with funds and a bidding war may ensue. Whilst Napoli were prepared to sell to a rival, Inter are more resolute in their determination that Icardi should move abroad.
