Jurgen Klopp’s goalkeeping crisis has seen them turn to the most unorthodox of solutions, writes the Daily Mirror.

Liverpool are turning to 36-year-old former Spain international Iker Casillas, who is available on a free transfer when his contract with FC Porto expires.

The legendary goalkeeper has lucrative offers from the Chinese Super League and Major League Soccer in the USA but is willing to turn his back on them for the chance to perform with one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Casillas has won all the game’s major honours, including five La Liga titles, three Champions League and a FIFA World Club Cup, as well the World Cup and European Championships with Spain.

The trip to Belenenses was a record-breaking occasion for Casillas; his 1,000th career appearance – 833 at club level, 167 for his country.

Liverpool are set to sell Simon Mignolet with Newcastle United among the leading contenders to sign the former Belgium international. Loris Karius, meanwhile, will also be heading toward the Anfield exit if Klopp can secure a suitable replacement for the German.

While the Reds are still targeting the AS Roma’s 25-year-old Alisson although the recent noises from the Giallorossi are that they are not selling.

At the weekend, sporting director Monchi told MediaSet that the club had yet to receive any offers for the Brazilian goalkeeper, reiterating statements in the previous week from other members of the Roma hierarchy.

Liverpool face competition from Real Madrid for the custodian.
