Swathed in his Liverpool training gear, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24 a fortnight ago, completed the formalities of a £40m move to Anfield.
The former Arsenal player had agreed a deal with Chelsea earlier in the week but as soon as the Merseyside club formalised their interest, Oxlade-Chamberlain was only leaving north London for one place.
Jurgen Klopp spoke at length about how he had been tracking the player for two years, reports the Daily Telegraph. Without Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving the England squad, he had his man.
It was initially thought his arrival might pave the way for Philippe Coutinho, 25, to join Barcelona which suggests that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s desire to play in central midfield may not be immediately realised.
Bidding farewell to his former team-mate, Aaron Ramsey took to social media to sing his praises but attracted controversy when he signed off using the hashtag, “shaaambles”. It later turned out that this was not the Welsh international’s opinion on Arsenal’s transfer window but Oxlade-Chamberlain’s nickname born from his shambolic timekeeping.
Nonetheless, Arsenal supporters aren’t impressed by the club’s transfer window despite the overwhelming apathy toward the Ox’s departure. The player thanked them and the coaches at the Emirates but felt he was ready to move on to the next stage of his development.
