Alvaro Morata could be close to return to Real Madrid. Again. For the zillionth time in his career.
The Spain international spent last season with Los Merengues, but chose to leave the side due to a lack of first-team opportunities. Instead he joined Chelsea for a hefty £60 million price tag last summer, but the move has not worked out as expected and Morata has not been able to adjust to life in England despite a promising start to life in the Premier League.
Real Madrid are keen to take advantage of that. Even though Robert Lewandowski is the team’s top transfer target, Los Blancos acknowledge that there might be complications to land the Bayern star and they would consider Morata instead. The struggles of Karim Benzema and the potential departure of Gareth Bale would certainly open a spot in the starting XI for Morata this time.
Morata would be nothing more than a backup plan at this point. But there is a big chance that he joins Madrid once again. We will have to wait and see how the market develops but this is certainly one rumour to watch closely. Real Madrid need a striker and Morata wants to leave England, so this seems to be a match made in heaven for both parties involved.
