Soon-to-be-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City are going head-to-head with Arsenal for the services of Benfica midfielder Joao Felix according to football.london.

Despite some of Europe’s elite clubs taking an active interest in the player, it is the Premier League duo who are making the first moves. Both have sent scouts to watch the teenager in recent weeks and are keen on beginning negotiations with the Lisbon giants.

O Bola, a Portuguese newspaper, claims Manchester United are also monitoring the 18-year-old whose contract reportedly includes a €60m release clause. Manchester City faces a FIFA probe into deals involving youngsters and are keen to stockpile some of Europe’s finest talents ahead of schedule to alleviate any problems which may arise.

Felix is predominantly used on the left wing by the Eagles but made his name as a prodigiously talented playmaker. It’s a role he is expected to develop into during his senior career.

Since making his debut aged 16, he has scored 7 goals in 28 appearances and been capped at Under-18, 19 and 21 levels by Portugal. Felix is widely tipped to make his senior debut during the qualifying campaign for Euro 2020 where Portugal will begin their defence of the title they won in 2016.
