Real Madrid‘s awful summer could go from bad to worse.
After losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and being unable to find a replacement, Los Blancos could be on the verge of losing another important player ahead of the 2018-19 season. We are talking about Mateo Kovacic, who is absolutely certain to leave the club during the current transfer period.
Kovacic was becoming increasingly frustrated with Real Madrid due to his lack of playing time, as he was – at best – the fourth midfielder on the pecking order; regular substitute off the bench but clearly behind Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro when it came to starting duties. And he wanted to sign with a club where he could have a clearer path at a starting gig.
Newly-appointed Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui talked with Kovacic this Friday and tried to convince him to stay, but that is not going to be possible and the former Spain manager couldn’t change the player’s mind. He is still determined to leave Los Blancos this summer and at this point, it might be better for all parties involved to analyse the best exit strategy.
The 24-year-old has spent the last three seasons at Real Madrid, and Los Blancos are hoping to sell him for a fee around the €50 million mark. Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and AS Roma have all been mentioned as possible destinations over the past few months.
