Jan Oblak’s days at Atletico Madrid could be numbered since the Slovenian goalkeeper is reportedly pushing for a January move away from the club, according to a report from Spanish outlet MARCA.
Apparently, the talented shot-stopper – widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe – is unhappy with the fact that the club is yet to offer him a new contract, and he would be keen to leave the team as a result. Things are so bad that Oblak wants to look for new surroundings right now, instead of waiting until the end of the 2018-19 season.
Oblak’s current deal runs until 2021 but this contract was signed back in 2016 and Marca claim that Oblak has been left frustrated by the fact he remains one of few first-team stars not to have been offered a lucrative improvement to his current agreement.
Teams such as Liverpool, PSG and Chelsea have been linked with a move for him, but all three have already improved their goalkeeping depth this season with the arrivals of Alisson, Gianluigi Buffon and Kepa, respectively.
Oblak has won the Zamora Trophy in each of the last three seasons defending Atletico Madrid, averaging 0.47, 0.72 and 0.59 goals conceded per game in those three years, respectively. Undoubtedly, he should have plenty of suitors should he choose to leave Atletico for good.
