After prolonged negotiations, Arsenal finally persuaded Barcelona to part with Denis Suarez on loan until the end of the season, reports El Mundo Deportivo.

The Blaugrana previously demanded that the North London club agreed to an ‘obligation to buy’ clause in the deal. Arsenal refused and to Suarez’s disappointment, the move appeared to fall apart.

However, a compromise was found when the 24-year-old signed a contract extension until 2021, offering Barcelona some protection should the Gunners not wish to pursue a permanent deal in the summer.

Now, the Catalans can command a fee for Suarez in that eventuality. Arsenal, meanwhile, will pay a loan fee of €2m.

It paved the way for the terms to be finalised this afternoon with the Galician set to fly to London on Wednesday for a medical. Once completed, he is set to make his Arsenal debut at Manchester City on Sunday.

Unai Emery prefaced the deal by highlighting that Arsenal were signing a maximum of two more players and none would be defensive. Most attention focused on Ivan Perisic, 29, but that remains unresolved for similar reasons which held up the Suarez deal.

Tuesday saw the midfielder bid his Barcelona colleagues farewell with the departure recorded by his namesake, Luis Suarez, posting to his Instagram feed.
