Mesut Ozil clarified his position and fuelled speculation about his future at Arsenal reports the Daily Mirror.
Speculation is rife that he will depart North London with Inter Milan showing most interest. However, no bid is forthcoming from the San Siro and Ozil made it clear he is not prepared to leave Arsenal on loan during the January transfer window.
However, he failed to state whether a permanent move was also out of the question leaving the door open for suitors to swoop. The Gelsenkirchen-born midfielder prefers to leave his options open to the summer 2019 transfer window where clubs have more funds available.
The former Germany international endured a troubled 2018 for both club and country. Ozil saw manager and Arsenal muse Arsene Wenger leave the Emirates before he received abuse for Germany’s dismal World Cup performance.
Since returning to club football, Ozil found himself bearing the brunt from the stands for Arsenal’s mixed performances. Despite contributing to the club’s 22-match unbeaten run, supporters are resorting to quoting “pre-assists” to justify his place as the club’s highest earner.
A series of niggling injuries – most recently his back and now his knee – saw him flit in and out of the side, missing the 5 – 1 humiliation at Anfield.
