Chelsea have an abundance of centre-backs on their squad, to the point that boss Maurizio Sarri has struggled to give playing to important names such as Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill, two defenders that could easily start in other top teams across Europe. However, that hasn’t stopped them from potentially adding ANOTHER centre-back to their mix.

According to a report from The Sun, Chelsea could be set to land a World Cup-winning centre-back in January after approaching Bayern Munich about the availability of Mats Hummels. The former Dortmund star hasn’t played much for Bayern of late, and the Bundesliga giants could potentially be open to a transfer during the coming weeks.

In fact, the report itself indicated that the Bundesliga champions have “named their price” for the star centre-back, and the response would have been a more-than-affordable sum in the region of £30 million.

However, Chelsea have been told that they must act quickly because Bayern would like to find a replacement in case Hummels leaves. Therefore, a report from The Metro claims that The Blues have until January 14 to submit an offer. In other words, Sarri and the management have around two weeks to decide on whether they want to sign Hummels or not. The door, apparently, is open.

Hummels is recognised as one of the world’s best centre-backs and is a five-time Bundesliga champion. Unquestionably, he would be an interesting addition to a Chelsea side that continues to fight for both a Top 4 finish and the UEFA Europa League title this term.
