Manchester City is preparing another raid on Leicester City with Ben Chilwell targeted as solving Pep Guardiola’s problems at left-back reports talkSPORT.

After Benjamin Mendy, 24, suffered a recurrence of his knee problems flared up after last week’s Carabao Cup semi-final, the City hierarchy is concerned with the France international’s fitness. Since joining from AS Monaco in June 2017, Mendy has just 18 league and cup appearances to his name, with half as many again for his country.

England international Chilwell’s reputation continues to grow with the 21-year-old continuing to turn in consistent performances after breaking into the first team on a permanent basis two seasons ago.

While he solves another potential headache for the Mancunians by being a homegrown player, that will come at a price with Leicester unwilling to sell the player cheaply. City know from the Mahrez negotiations that the Foxes are well aware of the value of their players and won’t settle for less. If City want a quick deal, it’s going to require money to do a lot of talking.

With City’s current raft of stand-ins aren’t natural left-backs and are both coveted by other clubs who can offer regular first-team football. Fabian Delph, 29, and Oleksandr Zinchenko, 22, are both expected to attract serious attention next summer with City understood to be willing to listen to offers.
