The price of the Jurgen Klopp’s spending will be the sale of eight first-team players according to the Liverpool manager.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com while the club is on a pre-season tour of the USA, Klopp noted he expects to see at least eight players leave this summer.

“When all the players are back the squad is big, so it is clear they all need opportunities to play.”

Klopp believes the younger players will stay with the Under-23s. However, old players such as Danny Ings, 26, Divock Origi, 23, and Daniel Sturridge, 28, will be featuring for “ a different club in a different league”.

He went on to add, “Then, of course, it is clear there are always requests from other clubs and we need to stay open for that.”

Crucially, the Reds squad is too big. Klopp observed that “it makes no sense to have 35 players” and that the situation is such players need to adopt a realistic approach. Not all have a future at the club.

Ings and Origi are the two upon whom Liverpool’s chances of raising significant funds rest. The pair is expected to raise £50m between them, almost covering off the fee paid for Alisson, 25.

Others expected to leave Anfield this summer are Lazar Markovic, 28, Marko Grujic, 22, and Sheyi Ojo, 21, along with one or both of Loris Karius, 25, and Simon Mignolet, 30.
