Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet impressed during the Andalusians 2 – 1 win at Old Trafford which dumped the Red Devils out of the Champions League.
It’s prompted Jose Mourinho to instruct his scouts to keep tabs on the Frenchman, whose current deal contains the almost laughably small release clause of £25m.
Sevilla are moving to correct that situation. Talks are ongoing with Lenglet’s agent with the promise of a sizeable increase in his wages, so long as the release clause also takes a sizeable increase as well.
The 22-year-old began his career with AS Nancy, moving to Sevilla after making 85 appearances as the team from north-eastern France moved from Ligue 2 to Ligue Un.
A €5m fee took him to La Liga, where he has featured 67 times for Los Rojiblancos in fifteen months. This season, he has become a fixture in the first team, scoring 3 times in 30 La Liga appearances.
United are desperate to strengthen their defence with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones both heading toward the exit door, with Daley Blind also deemed surplus to requirements.
