One of the hottest transfer commodities that could be available for the upcoming season just took a massive towards a potential exit of his current club. We are talking about no other than Emil Forsberg, the Swedish playmaker who has endured a rather disappointing campaign with the Bundesliga side during the current term.
Forsberg has fuelled rumours he could have already played his last match for RB Leipzig after simply writing “thanks for everything” on Twitter on Monday. This comes after the Sweden international picked up a red card during his side’s 2-5 defeat against Hoffenheim this past Saturday. As such, Forsberg will be banned for the club’s final three games, and the German FA already informed RBL of their decision.
This comes as a fitting end of the season for Forsberg. After notching eight goals with 22 assists in his debut season in the Bundesliga several teams were after the Swedish star – including AC Milan, Manchester City and Liverpool, just to name a few – but Leipzig did not part ways with him considering they were going to play in the Champions League next season.
It’s safe to say things didn’t work out for neither Leipzig nor Forsberg. The club couldn’t get past the Champions League group stages and were kicked out in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals as well as sitting sixth in the Bundesliga with only three games left in the schedule. As for Forsberg, he’s had an injury-plagued season that has limited to just two goals and two assists in 21 appearances.
And considering the ban has been made official, it seems we have seen the last of Forsberg playing for Leipzig. Especially after such a disappointing year and with the 2018 World Cup on the horizon.
