Real Madrid continue to search for a youthful striker as an alternative to Tottenham’s 24-year-old Harry Kane. The England captain is reported to be valued at £200m which is some £50m higher than the Spanish giants are prepared to go, according to reports from media surrounding the club.

It’s not surprise to learn that Real have turned their attention to Marcus Rashford, the precocious 19-year-old Manchester United forward. The Daily Mail claims that a bid is being prepared for the England youngster next summer with a view to giving him a ‘gentle’ introduction into life at the Santiago Berbabeu.

Comfortable playing on the wing, Rashford is seen as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, 32.

However, the Real Madrid heirarchy were given a harsh lesson last summer when 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe rejected a move to the Spanish capital, stating that at his tender age, the pressure of being seen as Ronaldo’s replacement would be too great.

Club president Florentino Perez took that message on board and is now convinced Real need to sign a replacement to play alongside the Portuguese legend. The plan is to get supporters used to the idea of a new striker while Ronaldo sees out his career and avoid comparisons for any new player.

While the idea of Rashford moving to the Bernabeu may be sound, the reality may be a quite different thing. It’s why the idea of offering Gareth Bale, 29, in part-exchange is gathering momentum.

United boss Jose Mourinho is an unashamed Bale admirer and might be tempted to allow Rashford to leave if an experienced replacement of the Welsh international’s calibre were available as a replacement.
