If Paris St Germain thought they had quelled the feud between the world’s most expensive footballer and the club’s leading scorer, they were sorely wrong the Manchester Evening News claims.
Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, 30, with 141 goals in 209 appearances, might think he is due more respect from 26-year-old Neymar Jr but at £196m, the Brazilian international will always be accommodated more as the new ‘toy’ for PSG’s owners.
Cavani and Neymar became embroiled in a dispute over penalties and spot kicks which the club’s hierarchy moved to soothe the well-paid egos but it seems still waters run deep in Neymar with the media revealing he has demanded his strike partner be sold in the winter.
Already linked with a move to Everton and Real Madrid, Cavani is said to prefer a move to Manchester City. The striker believes the array of attacking talent at Pep Guardiola’s disposal offers a more enticing prospect of footballing success than the other options.
However, with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero already at the club, Cavani may find the route to first team football is nowhere near as clear as he currently enjoys in Paris.
With Chelsea also looking to replace Michy Batshuayi, 24, Cavani might be more appreciated at Stamford Bridge, especially with Pep Guardiola intent on signing Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez, 28.
Cavani’s dream of moving to Manchester City may just be fading before it becomes real.
