Football fans – and especially Juventus‘ supporters – will be saddened after learning that star goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon will leave the Serie A side at the end of the current season. In other words, Saturday’s match against Hellas Verona will be Buffon’s final game with The Old Lady.

The legendary goalkeeper called a press conference at the Allianz Stadium to announce his decision, where he said he was proud to play at the best of his ability with the club, while also performing to a point where his performances reflected his quality and the greatness of the club.

Buffon also said he is happy and calm after making this decision, although it remains to be seen whether he will remain with another team or if he will retire. The veteran has not made a decision yet regarding his status for the future, but the only thing that is clear is that he does not want to play in a lower league.

As such, don’t expect him to play in the MLS, the Japanese J-League or the Chinese Super League. If Buffon keeps playing, he will do in a top European league. And there should be several teams that could use his services. After all, we are talking about a player who amassed over 170 caps for Italy and that played in five World Cups with Gli Azzurri.

Buffon registered 655 appearances for Juventus through his career and conceded only 518 goals, while keeping 310 clean sheets across all competitions.
